Advait Chandan is the director of the comedy-drama Laal Singh Chaddha, which was written by Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni. It is a remake of the 1994 American movie Forrest Gump, which was based on Winston Groom's novel of the same name. It was made by Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom18 Studios. Together with Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya (making his Hindi film debut), and Mona Singh, Aamir Khan plays the title role in the movie.
Over the course of two decades, the Forrest Gump adaption underwent a many of alterations. Kulkarni spent the first 10 years rewriting the script and another ten years acquiring the remake rights.

Laal was a young child with weak legs, but his mother was understanding and he had Rupa D'souza as his best friend. Bullies started throwing stones at Laal one day. Laal discovered he could run when the stones destroyed the leg braces he had worn. When Laal went to see Rupa one day, he discovered her sobbing while sitting outside her home. Her mother was being abused physically by her father. Rupa's mother passed away, and the police arrested her father. Rupa's grandmother, who had previously worked at Laal's home, was assigned to live with her. Laal was glad that Rupa and he were now always together.

India and Pakistan were at war in 1999. In the same battalion were Laal and Bala. Laal had been instructed by Rupa to leave as soon as his life was in jeopardy. He fled when the Pakistani army gained the upper hand, only to discover Bala was left behind. He returned, but each time he did,He came upon another soldier who was hurt and requesting assistance. Unaware that the Pakistani commander was the enemy, he also saved him. Although he was unable to save Bala, the Indian government nonetheless gave him a medal for saving 5 troops.
Laal wrote Rupa several letters, but she never replied. She had married a gangster who exploited her and gave her false promises of achieving her goals (parallels are made to the controversial relationship of the infamous gangster Abu Salem and Monica Bedi). When Laal went to see her, he witnessed the gangster slap her, so he attacked him. Rupa informed him that he would have to stop saving her and let her alone. Rupa was aware of the unwavering love she and Laal shared, but she aspired to material success at all costs.
Laal finally started an innerwear company, but he had no idea how to advertise his goods. The Pakistani commander Laal had rescued at that point, Mohammed Baaji, joined the group. Mohammed reasoned that if the company was named after a woman, perhaps sales would increase. Laal nicknamed his business Rupa because he only knew of one girl (a reference to the knitwear company). The company soon began selling underwear throughout all of India as the sales began to increase. After some time, Mohammed made the decision to return home and start a school there. Laal was left alone after the passing of both his parents.
Laal spent his time taking care of the farm his mother had left him. Rupa paid him a visit one day, but as soon as the authorities learned of her connections to the criminal, they began looking for her. Without informing Laal, she was given a six-month sentence in jail. Laal tried to control the unpleasant emotions that this incited, so he began to run in an effort to get away from them.

People began to speculate that he might be running for a worthwhile cause, and the media began to follow his progress. He nearly traversed the entire country during his run. He ran for months and then abruptly quit. People had begun to flee with him. They expected a lofty response when they questioned him about why he stopped. Laal claimed to be exhausted and to want to go back home.
Laal was pleasantly surprised to learn that Rupa had written him numerous letters when he got home. She was presently residing in Chandigarh after completing her sentence. When Laal met Rupa, he discovered that he was the child's father and that she had a child named Aman. Laal was ecstatic. Rupa had a life-threatening condition. Laal made the choice to wed her. Laal went Aman to his old school after Rupa passed away, feeling as though his life had come full circle.
